The Dinner That Changed Everything

Last night was supposed to be special. My husband surprised me with a romantic dinner — candles, wine, soft music. He never did things like this, so I was caught off guard. I let myself believe maybe, just maybe, he was finally making an effort.

We ate. We laughed. We finished our wine.
Then, half-joking, I said, “Okay, what’s going on? Are you dying or something?”

He went quiet. Too quiet.

Then the words came out:

“I’ve been cheating.”

My heart stopped.

Before I could even absorb the weight of his confession, he added:

“And she might be pregnant.”

I sat frozen. Not crying. Not angry. Just hollow.
I didn’t even know what to say.

But then, before I could respond, he picked up his phone, made a call, and said:

“Come in.”

The door opened.

I turned my head slowly, preparing for the worst —
…and froze.

Standing there wasn’t her.

It was my sister.
