How Often Should You Shower After 65? The Truth Might Surprise You

As we age, our skin becomes thinner, drier, and far more sensitive. Dermatologists say that one of the biggest mistakes people over 65 make is showering too often. While it may feel refreshing, frequent washing can actually strip your skin of its natural oils — leading to itching, flaking, and even infections.

Experts recommend that seniors shower just two to three times per week, unless they’re sweating or exposed to dirt. On non-shower days, a quick sponge bath can help keep you fresh without over-drying your skin.

Another important tip? Avoid hot water. Warm or lukewarm water is much gentler. Always use a mild, fragrance-free soap and follow up with a rich moisturizer right after stepping out of the shower.

It’s not about how often you wash — it’s about how well you care for your skin. So if you’re over 65, be kind to your body… it deserves it! 💧
